Today I want to share with you my little hobby — I love giving dolls a second life.
I search for those that are unwanted, abandoned, dirty, sometimes damaged… I wash them, clean them, restore them piece by piece, bringing them fully back to life. And then, suddenly, they become so beautiful, sweet, and smiling again that my heart simply fills with joy ✨
In today’s New Year’s story, we’ll witness a festive transformation of the legendary Patti Playpal doll by Ideal. She stands almost 35" (90 cm) tall and is believed to date back to the late 1950s or early 1960s… and her current condition leaves much to be desired.
So what do you say — shall we bring her back to her holiday magic together? 🎄💫 She "came" to me looking like this — and so I brought her into my workshop, where the real work began…

The very first thing I had to do was protect her eyes so that no water would get inside.

I washed her head with baby shampoo and definitely used conditioner — there was simply no other way… Her hair was dirty and stiff, almost like a horse’s tail.

Small details such as the ears, fingers, and tiny nails were cleaned with a small brush — and for this, an ordinary store-bought toothbrush works perfectly.

I never submerge the doll completely in water, so as not to damage the internal mechanisms. I cleaned the body using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser — inside the package there are very handy sponges already soaked with everything needed. They gently “erase” dirt, leaving no streaks and no light, over-cleaned spots behind.

Here she is already drying.

She has a lot of hair — it’s rooted and quite thick — it was just very dirty and badly tangled.

I combed it out as best I could… applied just a little light hair gel so it wouldn’t be too fluffy, and then put on an old, narrow hat that was no longer needed, so the hair would dry straight.

To be honest, I don’t really know how everything is supposed to be done — perhaps there are special tools for this kind of work. But I do it the way I can, with whatever I have at hand, because the most important things are love and gentle care.
The little one was lucky to still have her original Ideal dress — and for dolls like her, that means so much. Sadly, the condition of the dress was truly dreadful: the collar was missing, the neckline was torn, and I won’t even start on the inside seams… and so on, and so forth.

Since I’m not a seamstress,
I had to turn to a professional — a good friend of mine who is a wonderful tailor and often comes to my rescue. She sews outfits for the dolls I create myself. As you may know, I make porcelain dolls using molds by the renowned artist Dianna Effner. See here

This beauty was sent back to us — truly like night and day, a complete transformation.

And here we are — all washed and clean… fresh, sweet-smelling, and glowing once again 😊
It’s time to get dressed! ✨

And this is how we looked on New Year’s Eve! ✨🎄

We wish you a Happy New Year 2026! ✨🎄
From the bottom of our hearts, we wish everyone endless creative inspiration, good health, and great success in all your endeavors! 💫
