Celebrating 28 Unique Porcelain Skin Tones

Friends, I have something exciting to share with you... I finally did it! 😊

I have finally completed my project “We Are Dolls — A World of Shades”!

Many of you already know that I create porcelain dolls using the beautiful molds of Dianna Effner. But there is another very important part of my work: I also create my own Ultra Chic Porcelain Slip—the very porcelain material that I use to bring each of my dolls to life.

Ultra Chic Porcelain Slip is available in 28 exquisite skin-tone shades, from the soft and delicate Magnolia White to the warm, rich tones of Cappuccino. Each of these beautiful colors is available in my shop.

For this special project, I created 28 completely unique porcelain dolls, each measuring approximately 10–12 inches tall. I used different molds from Dianna Effner’s collections, including Wednesday’s Child Body Porcelain Dolls, Portrait Body, and Sweet Petite.

The idea behind this project was simple, yet incredibly meaningful: one doll for each shade of the Ultra Chic palette.

Every doll was cast in a different porcelain color, allowing each shade to become a unique character of its own. Together, these 28 dolls represent the full beauty and diversity of the Ultra Chic color collection.

Creating this project was a true adventure—and definitely one of the most ambitious projects I have ever taken on.

Let me explain why.

When you begin creating a porcelain doll, the first stage is casting all of the individual porcelain parts: the head, torso, arms, and legs. Each piece is carefully poured using porcelain slip and then prepared for the many steps that follow.

Usually, when you create several dolls using the same porcelain shade, the process is much simpler. All the parts naturally belong together, and there is little chance of confusion.

But this project was completely different.

With 28 dolls and 28 different porcelain shades, every single piece had to be carefully organized and matched. Every head, every arm, every leg, and every torso had to stay connected to its own unique color throughout the entire process.

Another challenge was that every piece had to remain perfect from beginning to end. If something happened to even a single part, I would have needed to cast it again using the same mold and the exact same porcelain shade. It wasn't impossible—but it certainly would have added a great deal of extra work and time to the project.

Fortunately, everything went exactly as planned, and every single piece made it safely through the entire process. But the responsibility of creating 28 dolls—each one in a different porcelain shade—made this project truly extraordinary in scale.

In total, this project required: 28 heads + 28 torsos + 56 arms + 56 legs = That means 168 individual porcelain pieces, all carefully cast in accordance with the 28 shades of the Ultra Chic palette.

Looking back now, I can honestly say that I am so happy I decided to create this project.

Through this journey, I had the opportunity to truly “meet” every single color in the Ultra Chic collection. Seeing each shade transformed from porcelain slip into a finished doll was an entirely different experience.

A color sample can give you an idea of a shade, but seeing it on a completed porcelain doll reveals its true personality and beauty.

And what can I say… the colors are absolutely breathtaking!

Each shade deserves its own celebration. Each one has its own mood, warmth, and unique character. If someone asked me which color is my favorite, I honestly wouldn’t know how to answer.

No… I simply couldn’t choose.

They are all incredibly beautiful in their own way.

And the dolls that were created from these colors… well, that is a whole story by itself. ❤️

Of course, it is a little disappointing that photographs simply can't capture the true beauty of these colors. Looking at the pictures, some of the shades may appear almost identical, but in reality they are remarkably different. Each one has its own unique warmth, depth, and character. Once, French Cream, Soft Champagne, and Parisian Chocolate were simply names of colors to me. But after experiencing each shade with my own hands and seeing its true character emerge, they are no longer just colors—they're living tones, each with its own personality.

As many of you know, I offer sample chips of every Ultra Chic shade, which provide an excellent idea of the individual colors. But seeing those same shades transformed into a finished porcelain doll—or any completed work of art—is an entirely different experience. Sample chips are a wonderful reference, but nothing compares to seeing the finished porcelain art piece after firing. That's when each shade reveals its true depth, warmth, and beauty.

As a collection, the dolls came together more beautifully than I could have imagined. And yet, each one is just as captivating on its own. They truly are a joy to look at.

What surprised me most was how dramatically each porcelain shade influences the personality of a doll. The color doesn't simply define the complexion—it brings the character to life.

Some shades radiate elegance and quiet sophistication. Others reveal a playful charm, gentle sweetness, youthful innocence, or carefree spirit. Certain tones even lend a doll an unmistakable sense of refinement—as if she were born with royal blood.

It's amazing how something as subtle as the color of porcelain can completely transform the feeling and personality of a doll. Every shade tells its own story, and watching those stories come to life has been one of the most rewarding parts of this entire project.
